Andrus House, ca. 1849. William Andrus, Sr., was a printer and bookseller who held many public offices, including trusteeships of the Village of Ithaca and Cornell University. His house, probably built in the 1830s, was located at 15 Prospect Street in Ithaca. His granddaughter Kate wrote of the home, from the front door-step, on a summer evening, "I could look out on the lovely lake, with hills on each side, and over the tops of green trees full of twittering birds. The creek at the foot of the hill always rippling and often the bells for an evening service, or the chimes from the University sounding on the air made up the most peaceful, lovely scene that I have ever found anywhere"
