Obituary for Gertrude F. Bower

"Mrs. Gertrude F. Bower, 91, of 148 W. Water St. Friday, Oct. 2, 1953. She was the widow of Frank L. Bower. Mrs. Bower was a member of the Lake St. Presbyterian Church and the Chemung County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution: Survived by two laughters[sic], Mrs. Harry Lovell and Mrs. George Uhl, both of Elmira; son, Edmund R. Bower of Kingston, N. Y.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Bernice R. Underwood, Mrs. Minerva R. Nichols, both of Ithaca, Mrs. Emma Stone of Elmira, and Mrs. Ruby L. Steen of Texas; several nieces, nephews and cousins."

Note: This obituary indicates that three married women in Tompkins HistoryForge were sisters.  Their common maiden name was Rockwell.

"Mrs. Minerva Rockweil Nichols, age 82. of 527 W. Huisache Avenue, died Saturday at a local hospital. She was a member of the Unitarian Church of Ithaca, N.Y.
  Survivors: Sons. Weeden B. Nichols, Dallas, Texas; Morris R. Nichols, Salisbury, Md.; daughter, Mrs. Jeannette Blume, San Antonio, Texas; sister, Mrs. Ruby L. Steen, El Paso, Texas; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren.
  Service Monday at 1:30 o'clock at the Porter Loring Chapel with the Rev. Philip Schug officiating."
