"One of Founders of Sanitary Ice Cream Company, Proprietor of Windsor Cafe For Many Years--Interested in Realty Development
Patrick L. Meany, a lifelong resident of Tompkins County and of the founders of the Sanitary Ice Cream Company, now the Ithaca Ice Cream Company, died at his home, 327 South Geneva Street, Monday evening. He had been in ill health for the past six years, and had been confined to his bed for many months. He was in his 60's.
Mr. Meany, known to a wide circle of acquaintances as "Patsy," was born in the Town of Enfield. He was educated in the rural schools and attended the old Ithaca Academy.
One of his first business enterprises was with the late
F. D. VanOrder, in the Meany & VanOrder Bottling Company. He later sold out his interest to Mr. VanOrder and was associated with his brother, the late
Dr. Edward Meany, proprietor of the Meany Pharmacy, which later became the Fahey Pharmacy.
Following the transfer of the pharmacy business to another owner, Patrick Meany purchased the Windsor Cafe, which became the Windsor Cafeteria, in the Clinton Block on North Cayuga Street. For years the Windsor Cafe was a popular gathering place for Ithacans.
He was manager of the Ithaca Realty Company for two years and had been secretary and treasurer of the company for 20 years. In later years he was an officer of the Conley and Meany Development Company.
Mr Meany, was an ardent sportsman and for many years was a familiar figure at trapshoots throughout this section of the State.
Besides his widow,
Agnes E. Meany; he is survived by a brother,
John Henry Meany of Ithaca. and a niece,
Mrs. Anthony Gallagher of Ithaca. The funeral will be held at 8:30 o'clock Thursday morning, December 4, at the home, 327 South Geneva Street, and at 9 o'clock at the Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
He was a member of Ithaca Aerie, No. 1253, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and Ithaca Council No. 227, Knights of Columbus."
