"Burns & Carey have sold what is known as the old cider mill property on West State street, owned by Fred D. Van Order, to William A. Murray, who intends to raze the building and erect a fire-proof garage on the site. The sale marks the approaching end of a structure which has been a familiar landmark for many years. Mr. Murray has occupied the property for several months with a temporary garage.
The property has a frontage of seventy feet. Mr. Murray was formerly connected with a large repair plant in New York City and expects to have his new garage completed within a few months."

“The Ithaca Sanitary Ice Cream Company, which was recently formed, has opened its offices and plant in the Hygeia Ice Company’s building at the corner of West State and Fulton Streets. With a capacity of 2,000 gallons of ice cream and ices every 24 hours, the company has one of the largest retail and wholesale factories in this section of the state.
The Emery Thompson Company of New York City has installed the ice cream freezers, coolers and machinery. There are several cream freezers, each freezer being equipped with pipes through which a mixture of brine and ammonia passes to freeze the cream. Ice is not used in making the cream, the only ice used being in packing for delivery.
The cream is made in large bars. The amount of cream desired is cut from the bars and wrapped in a prepared paper, thence being packed into the sanitary boxes for delivery.
There are two large cooling rooms, with the temperature in both standing below the zero mark at all times. In one room will be stored the fresh fruit to be used in the cream. The other cooler is known as the dry freezing room and there allowed to harden. Cream will never met or become soft in these coolers, it is said, because of the intense cold.
Charles Lawrence, who has made ice cream from coast to coast and recently was located at Kansas City, Syracuse and Rochester, will make the ice cream for the company. Fred D. Van Order of West Seneca Street, one of the city fire commissioners and a former alderman, is the manager. Offices have been arranged in the building.
An automobile and horse delivery will be used, the company having received word today that its Overland delivery car is now on the way to Ithaca. One wagon now is in use. Another will be used also if the automobile cannot take care of the remaining orders.”
