Obituary for Richard Frost Pendleton

"Richard Frost Pendleton, 77. of 326 Forest Home Drive, died unexpectedly on Friday, October 9, 1998 at the Faxton Hospital in Utica.
Born on September 5, 1921 in Binghamton, New York, Dick was a son of Claude and Miriam Frost Pendleton.
Schooling for Dick began at the Forest Home Elementary School followed by his graduation from Ithaca High in 1938.
He then pursued his undergraduate and graduate studies, in Entomology, at Cornell University.
Dick had a special quality that made a person feel very important when spending time with him. His wife, children and grandchildren can attest to this as they each have their own cherished moments harbored in their hearts.
The Ithaca community was very important to Dick as he served in so many capacities. He was currently serving on the Ithaca Kiwanis Club's board of directors, was a Charter Member of the Danby Pirates Club, assumed the role of Scout Master for Troop 45, took an active part in the Forest Home Improvement Assn. and held a board of director's seat with the East Lawn Cemetery Assn.
At the Cayuga Medical Center Dick served on the board of directors, was chairman of the legislative committee of the hospital auxiliary and devoted countless hours as a volunteer.
He was also a member of the Clifton Hunt Club in Degrasse, NY, the NYS Pesticide Assn, the Cornell Retirees Assn, was secretary for the board of trustees at the Alpha Zeta Fraternity and was an integral part of the Cornell University's Shoals Marine Laboratory.
Surviving Dick are his loving wife of 52 years. Ann Boone Pendleton; 3 sons, Louis (Elsie Luccarelli) of Freeville, Stephen (Vicki) of Austell, GA and Karl (Lois) of Dryden: 2 daughters, Amy (Harry) Simrell of Etna and Miriam (Drew) John of Underhill Center, VT: 9 grand-children; 2 brothers, John Philip (Julie) of Chapel Hill, NC and Robert (Carolyn) of Sequoit; a sister, Virginia (Tom) May of Panama City. FL; sister-in-law, June Pendleton of Rushville and many nieces. nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his brother Everett in December of 1997.
The family will be present to receive their friends at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home. 23 South St., Trumansburg on Monday from 3-5 & 7-9 pm.
A memorial service will be held at the Forest Home Chapel on Tuesday. October 13. 1998 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Earl Andrews and Rev. Jack Lewis officiating.
Parking and shuttle service will be provided from Cornell University's "A" lot, located on Pleasant Grove Road, to the Forest Home Chapel. The shuttle will stop for passengers at the UPPER SHELTER in "A" lot and will operate from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. (Due to road and bridge construction, there will be no parking at the Forest Home Chapel).
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dick's memory may be offered to the Forest Home Chapel,... Cayuga Medical Center, ... Ithaca Kiwanis Club, ... or the Shoals Marine Laboratory."
