  Miss Bernice J. Rockwell and Weeden B. Underwood were married yesterday noon at the home of the bride's sister, Mrs. Frank L Bower, in Lormore street. Rev. E. J. Brooker of Horseheads officiated. The bride was the principal of the Liberty street grammar school at Penn Yan and had also taught at Horseheads. The groom is an electrical draughtsman of Pittsburg, Pa. Mr. and Mrs. Underwood will reside at No. 911 James street, Pittsburg.
== AN AFTERNOON WEDDING ==
  Yesterday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Bower at No. 108 Lormore street, occurred the marriage of Miss Bernice Rockwell to Weeden B. Underwood.
  The bride has been a very successful teacher in the Penn Yan schools for several years, and was re-elected for the ensuing year but resigned. Mr. Underwood was formerly of Penn Yan, but is now located at Pittsburg, PA. He is a son of Benjamin Underwood, of Jerusalem, Yates county. Last evening Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Shaw. of Penn Yan, entertained the bride."

Note: Mrs. Frank L. Bower is the former Gertrude Rockwell, sister of Bernice.

"Mrs. Gertrude F. Bower, 91, of 148 W. Water St. Friday, Oct. 2, 1953. She was the widow of Frank L. Bower. Mrs. Bower was a member of the Lake St. Presbyterian Church and the Chemung County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution: Survived by two laughters[sic], Mrs. Harry Lovell and Mrs. George Uhl, both of Elmira; son, Edmund R. Bower of Kingston, N. Y.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Bernice R. Underwood, Mrs. Minerva R. Nichols, both of Ithaca, Mrs. Emma Stone of Elmira, and Mrs. Ruby L. Steen of Texas; several nieces, nephews and cousins."

Note: This obituary indicates that three married women in Tompkins HistoryForge were sisters.  Their common maiden name was Rockwell.

"Bernice Rockwell Underwood, formerly of 128 Linn St., Ithaca, Thursday, Sept. 8, 1954. Survived by sisters, Mrs. Emma R. Stone of Elmira, Mrs. C. C. Nichols of Ithaca and Mrs. Ruby L. Steen of El Paso, Tex. Body is at the Wagner Funeral Home, Ithaca, where friends may call Sunday evening. Funeral service there Monday at 10 a.m., the Rev. Henry Budd. Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads, at noon."
