“George ‘Paddles’ Browne, 79, of the Reconstruction Home died April 26, 1997 after an extended illness. Born Feb. 22, 1918 in York, PA, he had moved to the Ithaca area in the 1930’s.
He had worked in food service for many years and had served in the Navy during WW II.
He was a member of St. James AME Zion Church, VFW Post #961, and the HHG #40 F. & A.M. PHA.
He is survived by his daughters, Marcia Pikering of St. Louise[sic], MO, and Jacquelyn Haskins of Atlanta, Ga; his sister,
Josephine Yeaton of Ithaca; 3 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred Elizabeth in 1977. A memorial service will be held Fri. evening, May 2, 6p.m. at the Herson Funeral Home, 110 South Geneva St.”
