Prof. and Mrs. R.G. Wiggans Observe 50th Anniversary

"On New Year's Day Mr. and Mrs. Roy Glen Wiggans celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at a reception at the Statler Inn given for them by their sons and their families.
  On Jan. 1, 1917, the former Edna D. Landon of St. Louis, Mo. became the bride of Roy Glen Wiggans, a native of Mercer County, Mo. The Rev. Madison A. Hart, of the Disciples of Christ Church in Columbia. Mo. performed the ceremony at the home of the bride's aunt in St. Louis.
  Mrs. Wiggans, a 1915 graduate of the University of Mo. was named Savitar Queen and Harvest Queen of the College of Agriculture at the University when she was a student. At the same time Mr. Wiggans was earning his "M" in football at the University.
  In Ithaca she has been active in the Presbyterian Church, PTA, and the Campus Club. Recently she has taken part in the Senior Citizen's activities and the Old Timer's Club of the Cornell Campus Club. She enjoys working in her garden.
  Mr. Wiggans, professor emeritus in Plant Breeding in the Cornell University College of Agriculture, received the B.S. from the University of Missouri in 1914, and the M.S. and Ph.D. from Cornell University, Except for a year as Asst. professor of farm crops at Ohio University in 1917, Prof. Wiggans has been at Cornell University.
  During the years 1927 to 1930 Prof. Wiggans had two assignments in China in connection with a cooperative project between Cornell University, International Education Board and Nanking University.
  He has authored many publications for the College and has written papers for agricultural and scientific journals.
  A member of Sigma XI, Gamma Alpha, and Gamma Sigma Delta, Wiggans is on the Westminster Board of Directors. He has been a longtime elder of the First Presbyterian Church and was a member of a winning Cornell University Bowling team.
  The couple who lives at 315 Comstock Rd., has two sons. Robert L. is a farmer in Poplar Ridge. Roy G. Jr. is a urologist in Westport, Conn. They have 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild."
