"ETNA-Benjamin E. Sanford Sr., 79, 25 Lower Creek Rd., Etna, died unexpectedly this morning March 26, 1959, at his home after a heart attack. He had been a resident of Etna since 1946. Previous to that he resided in Ithaca and Forest Home.
Manager of the Cornell Co-op for 35 years until retirement, he was also a member of Tornado Hook and Ladder Company 3, Etna Men's Club, a former president of the Ithaca YMCA and secretary-treasurer for many years of the Country Club of Ithaca.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Abby Young Sanford; 2 sons Benjamin Sanford Jr. of Ithaca and Hall Sanford of Candor; 4 daughters, Mrs. Kathleen Dean of Ithaca, Mrs. Ruth Seither of Etna, Mrs. Margaret Hughes of Ithaca and Mrs. June Dona of East Aurora; 23 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Miss Gertrude Sanford and Mrs. Clara Noble of Ithaca; and 2 nieces.
