"Seeley (Deke) DeKay, 50, of Elmside, Lake Shore Drive, widely known as an athlete and sports enthusiast, died this morning, Monday, June 29, 1959, in Tompkins County Hospital after a week's illness.
  He was the proprietor of Deke's Auto Sales on the Elmira Rd. for the last 12 years, and previously had been employed for 34 years at Cayuga Rock Salt Co. in Myers.
  He played baseball in the old New York League for the Cayuga Rock Salt team that won the New York State championship. He also played basketball and semi-professional football.
  For the last 12 years he has been a territory scout for the Detroit Tigers, American League baseball club.
  In late years he owned and trained a stable of harness race horses. He recently sold the stable because of failing health. He was a member of the U.S. Trotting Assn.
  Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Rose V. DeKay; three sons, Robert B. DeKay of Ithaca, John S. DeKay of New York City and Seeley DeKay Jr. of Ithaca; two daughters, Mrs. Wilbur Hankes of Washington, D.C., and Miss Judy DeKay of Houston, Tex.; two grand children; his father, Judson DeKay of Ulster, Pa., and several uncles, aunts and cousins."
