"Seeley (Deke) DeKay, 50, of Elmside, Lake Shore Drive, widely known as an athlete and sports enthusiast, died this morning, Monday, June 29, 1959, in Tompkins County Hospital after a week's illness.
  He was the proprietor of Deke's Auto Sales on the Elmira Rd. for the last 12 years, and previously had been employed for 34 years at Cayuga Rock Salt Co. in Myers.
  He played baseball in the old New York League for the Cayuga Rock Salt team that won the New York State championship. He also played basketball and semi-professional football.
  For the last 12 years he has been a territory scout for the Detroit Tigers, American League baseball club.
  In late years he owned and trained a stable of harness race horses. He recently sold the stable because of failing health. He was a member of the U.S. Trotting Assn.
  Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Rose V. DeKay; three sons, Robert B. DeKay of Ithaca, John S. DeKay of New York City and Seeley DeKay Jr. of Ithaca; two daughters, Mrs. Wilbur Hankes of Washington, D.C., and Miss Judy DeKay of Houston, Tex.; two grand children; his father, Judson DeKay of Ulster, Pa., and several uncles, aunts and cousins."

 "Seeley DeKay of Ithaca Is Dead; Diamond Star

  Seeley DeKay, a native of Ulster, but a resident of Ithaca for many years, died at the Tompkins County Memorial Hospital on Monday, June 29, after a week's illness.
  Mr. DeKay was an employe of the Cayuga Rock Salt Company at Myers, N. Y., for 34 years but for the last 12 years has been the proprietor of Deke's Auto Sales.
  Deeply interested in all sports and athletics, he played baseball in the Old New York League for the Cayuga Rock Salt team that won the New York State championship, and also played basketball and semi-professional football.
  For the last 12 years Mr. DeKay had been territory scout for the Detroit Tigers American League Baseball Club.
  In late years he had owned and trained a stable of race horses which he sold recently on account of poor health. He was a member of the U.S. Trotting Association.
  Mr. DeKay was born in Ulster 50 years ago, the son of Jud and Julia Pipher DeKay, and spent his early life here. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rose V. DeKay; three sons, Robert B. DeKay of Ithaca, John S. DeKay, New York City, and Seeley DeKay Jr. of Ithaca; two daughters,
Mrs. Wilbur Hankes of Washington, D. C., and Miss Judy DeKay of Houston, Tex.; two grandchildren, and his father, Jud S. DeKay of Ulster and several uncles, aunts and cousins.
  The funeral and burial were held at Ithaca on Wednesday."
