"New Chief of the medical and dental staff of Hotel Dieu Hospital is Dr. Saul Baer Appel, El Paso cardiologist.

  Dr. Appel was born in New York City and attended Cornell University from 1941-43 for his pre-medical education. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine from New York University College of Medicine in 1947. He was an intern at Bellevue Hospital, New York, where he also served as assistant resident from 1947-49.
  From 1949 to 1950, he was a research fellow in rheumatic fever sponsored by the Masonic Foundation at New York University-Bellevue Medical Center. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1950-51 with the rank of major in Japan and Korea. From 1951-52 he was a resident in medicine (New York University Service) at Goldwater Memorial Hospital. From 1952-54 Dr. Appel served as chief, cardiovascular service William Beaumont General Hospital, El Paso."
