Obituary for George Hamor Lee
The Cincinnati Enquirer, Feb 16 1983, P. 14, Col. 1
"George Hamor Lee, 74, of Westwood, a retired University of Cincinnati administrator credited with greatly expanding the university's research potential, died Tuesday in Hilltop Nursing Home.
He joined the University of Cincinnati in 1963 as associate dean of the graduate school and administrator of university research. He retired in 1974 as professor emeritus of aerospace engineering.
A 1963 article in The Enquirer described Dr. Lee as "a soft-spoken cultivator helping the University of Cincinnati increase an important intellectual product." It said the fruits of his efforts would be "a high-yielding crop of defense contracts" for the university.
Before moving to the University of Cincinnati, he had taught at Cornell University, Carnegie Institute of Technology, the United States Naval Postgraduate School and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
A native of Oakmont, Pa., he earned his bachelor of science degree from the University of Pittsburgh and his master's and doctorate degrees from Cornell.
In private industry, he worked in research and administrative capacities for Alcoa, Babcock and Wilcox Co., and Minneapolis Honeywell Regulator Co. He also was chief scientist of the U.S. Advance Corps at the Pentagon for two years.
Survivors include his wife, Lola; a brother, Alfred M.; a son, George H. II, and two grandsons."
