Application of William Lyon to change name to William C. Bower.
The Ithaca Journal, Sep 27 1940, P. 17, Righthand col.

 "The petition of William Lyon duly verified the 23rd day of September, 1940, entitled as above having been duly presented to the County Court of Tompkins County, the said petition praying for leave of the petitioner to assume the name of William C. Bower in place and stead of William Lyon, and the court being duly satisfied that the averments contained in such petition are in all respects true and that there is no reasonable objection to the change in name proposed.
  Now, on motion of Lawrence M. Mintz, Esq., the attorney for the petitioner, it is,
  ORDERED that William, Lyon of Ithaca, New York, be and he hereby is authorized to assume the name of William C. Bower on November 10th, 1940, upon condition, however, that he shall comply with the further provisions of this order, and it is further 
  ORDERED that this order and the aforementioned petition be filed within 10 days of the date hereof in the office of the Clerk of the County of Tompkins and that a copy of this order within 10 days from the date hereof be published once in The Ithaca Journal, a newspaper published in Ithaca, New. York and that proof of publishing thereof be filed with the County Clerk of Ithaca, and it is further
  ORDERED that following the filing of this petition and order herein as hereinbefore directed and the publication of such order and the filing of proof of publication thereof as hereinbefore directed and on and after November 10th, 1940, petitioner shall be known by the name of William C. Bower and by no other name.

Obituary for Suzie B. Collins

"Mrs. Suzie B. Collins, 82, of 106 Madison St. died Sunday, March 21, 1971 in Tompkins County Hospital.
  She was the widow of John Collins and was a member of the Lansing Methodist Church.
  She is survived by one son, William C. Bower of Ithaca; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two cousins.
  Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Wagner Funeral Home. The Rev. Sheldon Stephenson of St. Paul's Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Lansingville Cemetery at the convenience of the family."

"TRUMANSBURG -- William C. Bower, 78, of 7115 Halseyville Rd., Trumansburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 1990 in Tompkins Community Hospital.
  Born in Lansing, he was the son of the late Clarence Lyon & Suzie Collins. He had been employed by the Ithaca City School District until his retirement in 1974 & was a member of North Lansing Lodge #774, F. & A.M.
  Mr. Bower is survived by his wife, Edna Ackles Bower of Trumansburg: daughters and sons in law, Beverly and Ralph Tuckerman of Alpine, Nancy and Larry Gambitta of Rochester, Cora and Bruce Fellows of Trumansburg and Linda and Bill Warner of Locke; eight grandchildren & six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 in the E.C. Wagner Funeral Home of Ithaca, Rev. Sheldon Stephenson officiating. North Lansing Lodge #774 will conduct Masonic rites immediately following the funeral service. Burial will be in Frear Memorial Park in the spring."
