Obituary for Ruth E. Hope (1909-2001)

'CORTLANDT MANOR - Ruth Ellis Hope passed away on February 28, 2001 at the age of 91. She was a resident at Field Home - Holy Comforter, Cortlandt Manor, NY for the past seven years. Previous to that she had lived in Highland Falls, Peekskill and Ithaca, NY.
She was born to Katherine Goetsch and Matthew William Ellis on June 28, 1909 in Manhattan. She worked as a legal secretary in Manhattan for several years prior to her marriage to James Stewart Hope in 1935.
In Ithaca, NY where she lived from 1942 to 1972, she was active in numerous community and charitable organizations including the P.E.O. Sisterhood, the Newcomers Club, the Ithaca School District PTA, Girl Scouts and Brownie Scouts. She was as a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church and served as president of the WSCS. She also served on the board of McGraw House. After moving to Westchester in 1972, she continued her community service as a volunteer at Hudson Valley Hospital Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Jaquelyn Hope Ringer and son-in-law, James M. Ringer of Granite Springs; her grandchildren, Carolyn Ringer Lepre and husband Todd Lepre of Chico, CA, and James Matthew Ringer and wife Jennifer Heydon Ringer and great grandson, Jack Matthew Ringer of Steamboat Springs, CO; and her sister, Catherine Ellis of Yorktown Heights.
