Marriage of Isabelle Mitchell to Joseph Thomas

"Miss Isabelle S. Mitchell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Mitchell of Forest Home, and Joseph Thomas of Jersey City, were married at 11 this morning at the home of the bride's parents.
  The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Roy S. Smyres, pastor of the Forest Home Chapel.
  The house was decorated with palms, baskets of gladiolus, and garden flowers.
  Mrs. Helen Milks Francis played several selections before the ceremony, and "Lohengrin's Wedding March" and "Mendelssohn's Wedding March" followed the ceremony.
  The bride, given in marriage by her father, was attired in white mousseline-de-soie, fashioned with a jacket of white taffeta and carried a bouquet of white Killarney roses and swansonia. Her matron of honor, Mrs. Clarence Newberry, Danby, wore transparent blue teardrop crepe, and carried Brier Cliff roses. Clarence Newbury acted as best man.
  A wedding breakfast was served to the bridal party and members of the immediate families at the Forest Home Inn. Covers were laid for 28 guests. The tables formed in the shape of a "U" were arranged with garden flowers and lighted tapers.
  The bride is a graduate of Ithaca High School. Ithaca Business School and attended Cornell University. She is at present employed in the agricultural economics department at Cornell. Mr. Thomas is also an employe of Cornell University.
  For a going away outfit, Mrs. Thomas selected a tan ensemble with brown accessories.
  After a wedding trip through the New England States, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas will reside in Forest Home.
  Among the out-of-town guests attending were: Mr. and Mrs. William Mitchell Jr. of Tunkhannock, Pa.; Mrs. Alfred Pelmear, and Mrs. Hazel Rundle of Freeville; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Burlew of Truxton; Mrs. J. Snyder, and Mrs. Beryl Sloughter of White Church."

SAMMAMISH, WA -- Longtime Ithaca resident, Isabelle Mitchell Thomas. passed away in Sammamish, WA. on May 15. 2004, at the age of 94. She graduated from Ithaca High School and was a member of the Cornell Class of 1930.
  Mrs. Thomas grew up in Forest Home and was a member of the Forest Home Chapel (United Methodist) for many years. Her father, William Mitchell, was a Scottish stone mason whose artistry graces numerous Cornell University buildings. He also built the noted cluster of stone houses on Forest Home Drive, near the Cornell Plantations and Rose Gardens, where Mrs. Thomas resided for most of her adult life.
  Except for one year during World War II, when she went to Washington D.C. to work in the Department of Agriculture as part of the war effort, Mrs. Thomas spent her entire career at Cornell University. She was a secretary in the NYS School of Agriculture and administrative assistant at the NYS School of Industrial & Labor relations, retiring in 1971 as secretary to the Dean. Her husband, Joseph E. Thomas, was also a longtime Cornell employee who worked in the Housing and Dining Department. In retirement. they relocated to Seminole. FL. where Mr. Thomas passed away in 1983. Mrs. Thomas moved to Sammamish, WA, in 1998 to be closer to her family.
  She is survived by son, William E. Thomas and his wife. the former Lynette Bulche of Ithaca, who live in Sammamish, WA: grandchildren, Benjamin Thomas of New Britain, CT, Michael Thomas of Spokane, WA; and Lisa Croston of Bellevue, WA: great-grandson, Kian Croston: and four nieces in Pennsylvania.
  At her request, no services were held. Memorial donations may be made to the Forest Home Chapel."
