Obituary for Clara Goodman

"FOREST HOME - Clara Ellsworth Goodman, 91, of Forest Home, died at her home on Sunday, January 25, 2009. Miss Goodman was born January 4, 1918 in Denison, TX and moved to Ithaca when she was two with her parents, Cornell professor Alpheus M. Goodman and Clara Browning Goodman. She graduated from Ithaca High School in 1935 and received a B.A. in Nursing from Cornell in 1941. Her training included three years at New York Hospital in Manhattan.
She was hired by the Tompkins County Health Department in 1942 and was instrumental in developing the county's home health care program. She served as supervising public health nurse and later, home care coordinator before her retirement in 1983.
Miss Goodman, known for her succession of well-loved little dogs, until recently mowed her own lawn and baked batches of cookies to deliver to ailing friends. She enriched the lives of her family and many friends with her wisdom, sense of humor and enthusiasm for life. Miss Goodman was always quick to lend a hand or offer an encouraging word, and had a gift for bringing out the best in everyone around her.
Her survivors include 14 nieces and nephews. A scholarship is being created in Miss Goodman's memory. Donations made payable to Cornell University, with Clara Goodman Scholarship Fund in the memo line, may be sent to the College of Human Ecology, Cornell University, Alumni Affairs and Development Office, MVR Hall, Ithaca, NY 14853."
