“Anthony A. Andrews, 74, of 130 W. State St., died Friday, April 10, 1970, in Tompkins County Hospital following a short illness.
Andrews was owner and operator of Andrews Confectionery Store, 308 E. State St., since 1931.
He came to Ithaca from Chicago in 1921.
While in business at the Blackstone Hotel in Chicago, Henry Ford and Thomas Edison were two of his favorite customers. He attended Cornell when he first came to Ithaca, then started business at the Fruit Palace on N. Tioga St. His hand-made candies have always been favorites of Ithacans and Cornellians.
His candies were shipped all over the United States to Cornellians.
He was a veteran of World War I and a native of Athens, Greece.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruby Litch Andrews of Ithaca; one son, Anthony D. Andrews of Interlaken; two daughters, Miss Suzanne Andrews of Ithaca and Mrs. Olympia McFall of Ithaca; and one cousin, Mrs. Diana Halvagis of Gary, Ind.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. this Tuesday at St. Catherine’s Green Orthodox Church with the Rev. Iavakos Papavasilopoulous officiating.
Burial will be in South Hill Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours, and Bangs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.”
