Brooks Drug Store Over 100 Years Old.

"During the Brooks ownership the store experienced damages from two fires. The first one occurred in February, 1912, when stores fixtures were ruined and a large proportion of the stock was destroyed. The store was then located at 128 E. State St. where Van's Shoes is now. Then the present store at 126 E. State St. was equipped and opened later in the year. A story in the Journal remarked about 'the white tile floor and the absence of any counters or showcases along the sides of the room. In the arrangement of the store, the firm followed the practice now in vogue in the larger cities and the front, or show room, is given over entirely to proprietary medicines and sundries; no stock bottles being in evidence.'

Maurice P. Kassman, who had been manager of a drug store in Binghamton, purchased the Brooks Pharmacy in 1934 from John G. Brooks. Three years ago his son, Leonard E.
