Extract from News section from Glenwood 
The Roslyn News, 23 June 1888, P. 3, Col. 2.

"--On Saturday evening last the ladies of this village gave a strawberry supper and entertainment. The evening's entertainment was begun by the scholars of the public school, who sang a college song entitled "There is a tavern in the town." Following this they were favored by vocal and instrumental selections from Miss Etta M. Billing and Miss Maggie C. Gelston of Brooklyn, and Mrs. E. B. Belcher and Miss Julia Barker of Mineola.
  Much credit is due these ladies for the masterly way in which they delivered their parts. We cannot speak too highly for them as artists in their profession. The people must thank Mrs. A. Van Cott, Mrs. Joshua Bedell, Mrs. L. Manahan, Mrs. O. Leary, Mrs. B. Thorne, Mrs. Geo. Smith and Mr. O. J. Beaman for the success of the evening. They were untiring in their efforts and deserve much credit. Mrs. Geo. Smith was more than generous in loaning her piano for the occasion and her generosity will not soon be forgotten, as such acts of kindness are always appreciated. 
  Certificates of honor were awarded to Venina E. Bedell, Sarah E. Kissam and James Van Nostrand for having received the highest per centage in their respective classes.
  The proceeds of the evening, $48.47, were presented to Principal Hannas by the ladies to show their appreciation of the work done by him during his two years labor among them. At the close of the entertainment Principal Hannas delivered his farewell address,...""
