“Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hatfield and John Harmston, formerly residents of this place, but now of Newburg, packed up their goods last Friday night for the purpose of moving to Pittsburg, Pa. Mrs. Hatfield took her two children and went to a neighbors to stay all night and Hatfield and Harmston stayed with the things. Along toward morning they were awakened by smoke and fire. They made for a window, Hatfield jumped to the roof of a neighbor’s stoop and was safe. Harmston tried to, but fell and hurt his spine. He was carried to the hospital. Wednesday they received a dispatch that he was dead and his body would be brought here and buried beside his wife.”
