"William Webster Westervelt, 85 years of age passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2018 with loved ones at his side. He was born in Ithaca, New York on October 16, 1932 to parents Walter Earl Westervelt and Georgiana Root Westervelt. The beloved husband of Ruth S. Pomeroy for 60 years, he leaves four children, Wendy, Lisa, Todd, Heather; eight grandchildren, Shawn, Cedar, Tahoma, Daniella, Marcel, Gabriel, Bjorn, Annalise; five great grandchildren, Galen, Gwendalynn, Gloryanna, Rosa, Haven.
  William received his bachelor degree from Cornell University and Masters from Rensselaer Polytech in Mechanical/Analytical Engineering. He worked for UTC - Hamilton Standard for 35 years retiring at age 59. A resident of East Granby for nearly 60 years he involved himself in many town projects: Board of Education, Historical Society, East Granby Finance Board, Land Trust, Cowles Park Trails, Elmwood Cemetery, Democratic Committee, Friendship Club. He was a member of the Hartford Ski Club and the Unitarian Society of Hartford.
  He was predeceased by his brother, Ralph, sister, June and is survived by sister, Georgia and leaves several cousins and nieces and nephews.
  William's love for family was paramount in his life. Nature and gardening, helping young people develop soccer skills and skiing with his friends and family brought much pleasure. A love of classical music and opera were evident as he passed this knowledge down to the next generation. Being an intellectual at heart allowed him to relate to others on many subjects. He also had a dry sense of humor. Bill touched many lives and helped to make the world a more beautiful place. May he rest in peace.
  A Memorial Service will be held at the Unitarian Society, 50 Bloomfield Ave., Hartford, CT. "
