"A family was made homeless and another Tompkins County landmark wiped out by fire at Caroline early Sunday. 
  The building destroyed was known as the old Nathanial Tobey tavern, built about 1804 and for many years one of the principal stopping points for stages traveling the old Catskill Turnpike. It had been owned and occupied by C. M. Murray and his family for the past few years. 
  The old dwelling and all its contents were destroyed, the loss including household furniture and more than 500 cans of fruit and vegetables. The fire was discovered by members of the Murray family shortly before 3 a. m. The origin was not ascertained. 
  Before any of the furniture could removed from dwelling, the flames had spread throughout the structure. The absence of winds and the fact that snow covered the roofs of other nearby buildings probably prevented the flames from spreading. 
  The Murray family, made homeless, obtained accommodations in Ithaca where Mr. Murray is employed as a plumber for Jamieson-McKinney Company. Some insurance was carried on the dwelling and its contents."
