"A lifelong resident of Ithaca, Mrs. Spaulding operated the first beauty parlor here. She was a  member and trustee of St. James AME Zion Church. She was affiliated with the Willing Workers Club of the church, and was a member of the Women’s Club of the South Side Community Center, as well as being a director on the board of the center. Mrs. Spaulding was also a member of the Ithaca branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People."
