"Ithaca lost another resident of advanced years last night in the death of Martin Van Buren Harty. He died at 610 West Buffalo street at the home of his step-daughter, Mrs. Clara E. Conrad, with whom he had made his home.
Mr. Harty was for many years an engineer on the Lehigh Valley railroad and he ran the first locomotive that come to Ithaca on that road many years ago. He was formerly connected with the Ithaca police department and was a member of No. 6 Company of the Ithaca Fire Department. He was also a member of the Forest City Council, No. 147, Royal Arcanum. Of late he had been employed at Rockefeller Hall, Cornell University. Surviving relatives include two brothers, George and Frank Harty of this city; two step-sons, William and Walter Leonard and one step-daughter, Mrs. Clara E. Conrad, all of Ithaca."
