"Famed Dairy Specialist Dies at 84
  Professor Emeritus Harold E. Ross, 84, of 115 McIntyre Pl. died today, July 1, 1966, at Tompkins County Hospital. He retired from the dairy department at Cornell University in 1947 after more than 40 years on the staff.
  Mr. Ross received the B.S. degree from Cornell in 1906 and M.S. in 1909.
  He became an assistant professor in 1906 and was made full professor in 1912. He was a pioneer in dairy science, studied dairy bacteriology in South America, and was one of the first teachers to offer a course dealing with technical and sanitary aspects of fresh milk production and distribution.
  Mr. Ross wrote four textbooks in the dairy field as well as many bulletins and papers. During World War I, he was appointed by the U.S. government as a consultant for the cheese industry.
  He was born Oct. 23, 1881 in Leadville, Colo., attended Waverly (N.Y.) high school and studied at the University of Chicago. His affiliations included the American Dairy Science Assn., Society of American Bacteriologists, Sigma Xi, Gamma Alpha, Masons, and Forest Home Chapel.
  His wife, Jessie Fremont Williams Ross, died earlier this year.
  He is survived by two sons, John W. Ross of Ithaca and H. Ellis Ross of West Springfield, Mass.; a daughter, Mrs. Jane Moore of Edina, Minn.; seven grandchildren; two great-grand-children; and a brother, Earl D. Moss of Ames, Iowa."
