"Dr. Richard Parmenter, 85, of Bently Hay, St. Michaels, [Maryland], formerly of Ithaca, died Sunday, June 8, 1980, at Memorial Hospital in Easton [MD].
He was a graduate of Cornell University and was Coordinator of Research at Cornell from 1946 until his retirement. He was a flyer with both the French and the American air forces during World War I.
He later became president of the Pierce Arrow Motor Car Co. in Europe and, after returning to the United States, he commanded the Austin Sub-Arctic Expedition to Baffin Land.
As a Naval officer during World War II, Parmenter served as anti-submarine warfare officer for the Eastern Sea Frontier. In 1948, he was appointed associate director of the Operations Research Office in Washington, D.C.

He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Parmenter Miscall of St. Michaels; three grandchildren and a great-grandson."
