The Ithaca Journal, Aug 15 1970, P. 5, Cols. 1-2, with photo

"Having joined the business in the days of silent films. when admission to a show cost a nickel. and motion picture machines had to be cranked by hand. Clair Hollander is retiring from a lifetime of managing movie theaters.
He began by delivering election returns while still in grammar school in Elmira. moved up to ushering. then cashiering. and then became assistant manager.
'I was running the theater before I could even sign the checks.' he said. figuring that he couldn't have been much past 14 at the time.
Many movies and many years later. Hollander is leaving his home at 111 Blair St. and retiring to Florida. after 30 years of managing theaters in Ithaca.
...
"From being manager of the old Crescent Theater on N. Aurora St., now the Tectonics building. in 1930 to being general manager of all Ithaca theaters in 1954. to divisional manager in 1969. Hollander is moving to Florida in September. He hopes to engage in his hobbies of hunting. fishing and oil painting.
When asked if he would have anything to do with movie theaters there. he replied. 'Not if I can help it.'"
