“Became a licensed practical nurse in 1941, joined the Army Auxiliary Corp in 1942 as a guard, and remained there until the end of World War II. In 1944, she was appointed "Special Police Officer" by the Mayor of Ithaca, New York, becoming a deputy Sheriff and one of Tompkins County's first policewomen.”
