"Lake View Dairies, founded by the late Albert A. Scholtzhauer [Schlotzhauer], will open to the public for the first time Saturday its new dairy plant at Fourth and Adams Sts.
Begun 2 years ago as the business outgrew the original plant at 609 N. Tioga St., the new dairy is the last word in dairy plant engineering, and when machinery and equipment becomes available; it will be the most modern in this section of the state.
Some new equipment has already been obtained, including machinery for pasteurization, clarification, bottling and cooling. On the opening day the public is invited to witness the processing of milk from the raw stage to the finished product.
Alvin F. Goodspeed, manager of the dairy, said that the capacity of the new plant would be about 1,000 cans daily. The present plans are for handling about 300 cans, more than twice the amount that was handled at the old plant.
Founded in 1920, the original plant at 609 N. Tioga St., was but a single story building and by 1925 the business had grown to such an extent that double the amount of floor space was necessary. It was then that additional machinery was installed, but in the last few years even this equipment has been inadequate.
In deciding on a site for the new plant, the present location was selected, being adjacent to a railroad siding so that milk could be shipped in the future.
Since the death of the founder Sept. 7, 1945, the business has been conducted by the estate through Mr. Schlotzhauer's son, Walter. Manager Goodspeed has been with the company for the last 22 years."
