Description
An outstanding example of a one and one-half story Greek Revival house, considered the finest example of this type of house in the community.  This finely proportioned Greek Revival cottage is one of several area residences built by mill owner Isaac Cradit. It has reeded porch columns and other distinctive wood trim, inside and out. Wide floor boards located in part of the downstairs.  Situated on a knoll at one end of the downstream bridge, the house commands attention and marks one end of the Byway, the oldest residential area in Forest Home. The houses in this area were all related to the development of the mills on Fall Creek. They were built close together, and are all of approximately the same period and style.

This one-and-a-half story house with one-story side and rear wings features a gable roof, wide frieze and returns. The recessed main entry door is framed by pilasters and an entablature consisting of a wide frieze and extended cornice. The door, built with deeply recessed panels, is flanked by sidelights and topped by a transom light. A wraparound porch on the side wing is supported by fluted Doric columns. Windows are six-over-six and nine-over- six double hung sash. An interior sitting room features elaborate pedimented door and window mouldings.

In 1945, a basement was dug, and a one-story wing was added in the rear. At the same time, a porch adjoining the kitchen was removed and the area was enclosed. In 1947, a multi-light picture window was installed on the east facade. Between 1976 and 1978, Jane and David Bates added a bay window (facing north) to a wing which had been added earlier. The flat roof of this wing was subsequently changed to one with a slight slope. Slatted shutters, which were not original, were removed in 1974. A two-story garage was built to the west of the house in 1976, with gable trim that matches the house.

The front facade of the house has remained virtually unchanged since the house was built.
