The building originally on this property was the Gossman-Sage-Grant House, a Greek Revival structure built in 1830. A residence for the first hundred years, this building was part of Ithaca College's downtown history. It housed the Ithaca Institution of Public School Music (1931-1932), and later the Ithaca College Department of Music (1933-1964). In 1965 the buildings at 310 and 314 North Cayuga were torn down and replaced by a single building which housed the Tompkins County Public Library until 2000.
