"The living room of a house occupied by Brownetter Hubbard at 119 Cherry St. was extensively damaged by fire at 2:15 p.m. Thursday.
Assistant Fire Chief Lawrence Daniels said the house, owned by the Wallace Steele Co,., is now uninhabitable. Daniels said the fire was started by a defective oil-burning space heater in the living room.
Several upstairs rooms were damaged by smoke. The living roman all its furnishings were destroyed. Companies 1, 3, 5 and 6 responded to the alarm and extinguished the blaze by using a one and half inch hose and a booster line."
