"Another step in the plans to develop Ithaca's glens, waterfalls and other natural scenic resources was revealed today when it was learned that workmen are tearing down the old Burritt house at the head of Linn street, facing the intersection of East Mill street, for the purpose of affording tourists and the general public an unobstructed view of Cascadilla Creek ravine.
Inquiry brought out the fact that Robert H. Treman, who has been actively interested in movements to develop gorges and glens in this city and its surrounding vicinity, purchased the Burritt residence several years ago with an idea of aiding the future development of Cascadilla ravine.
Hundreds of tourists either entering or leaving Ithaca by way of University avenue, have been unable to appreciate the beauties of Cascadilla Creek ravine at this particular section because the Burritt house obstructed the view. The elimination of the house, therefore, will provoide an unobstructed view of the ravine for a space of 50 feet in width.
In addition to opening up the view the property where the house formerly stood is to be parked and improved by Mr. Treman and will serve practically as an entrance to the ravine at this point. Persons coming up Mill street or going along Linn street will be afforded an unobstructed view of the ravine as a result of the improvements."
