"The Exchange Hotel which adjoins the new Quick Building, is nearing its centennial mark. It housed the first meeting of the Odd Fellows, 1842, and served them with lodge rooms until 1847 or 1848. It was a strict temperance hotel for about 65 years and did a flourishing stage coach business in early days."

"Famous Americans are Associated with the Early History of Ithaca; Recalled by Removal of Livery," Ithaca Journal-News, June 9, 1924, 7.

"The Exchange Hotel at 124 W State Street is being remodeled for occupancy by a tire and automobile accessory store to be run by John P. Conley, formerly with the William A. Murray Garage on West State Street. Mr. Conley has leased the part of the building formerly used as lobby and office for the hotel from Mrs. Cecelia E. Otis who will continue to maintain rooming accommodations on the second floor and part of the first at 122 [West] State Street..."

"Smoke began seeping beneath the eaves of the two-story, 155-year-old building Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., then spread quickly engulfing the roof and upper floor."

John Yaukey, “Fire Rips Through State St. Building,” Ithaca Journal, August 24, 1995, 1.

Exchange Hotel closed about 1928.

"Eclectic Hangout Had Memories for Many," The Ithaca Journal, August 24, 1995, 12.

"The oldest wooden commercial structure in Ithaca, the building at 124-126 W. State St. housed two apartments and two businesses--the State Smoke Shop and the calzone shop D.P. Dough. After the fire that gutted the upper stories, the city's building department decided that part of the building had to be torn down and the rest brought up to code."

Lea Setegn, "State St. Fire Fixes Continue," Ithaca Journal, January 9, 1996, 3.
