In the Great Flood of 1857: "James C. Cook’s saw mill dam, just above Wells’ falls, on Six Mile Creek, gave way about 6 ½ P. M. The dam was filled with logs, which carried down the current, added to the force of the water, swept away every thing which impeded their course.....
Mr. James C. Cook has lost, we understand, at least 1000 logs, a well constructed dam and the bridge across the stream at his mill is also gone."
