“Mrs. Katherine G. McCormick, wife of Bernard F. McCormick, died at the City Hospital at 2:10 o'clock Sunday morning. She was a native of Ithaca, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael McAllister, long-time residents of this city.
Graduating in 1886 from the Ithaca High School with honors at the age of 16, she studied stenography at Wyckoff's Phonographic Institute, and later taught for several years in that institution, until the Board of Education through Supt. F. Boynton induced her to take charge of the stenographic department of the High School commercial course. She was an excellent stenographer and capable business woman as well as an accomplished teacher, and under her direction the High School course was a popular one and turned out many successful office and business house assistants for this and other cities.
In 1906 she was married to Bernard F. McCormick, at that time a prominent merchant tailor, and resided for a number of years at 209 Hudson street, later removing to 613 East State street. Mr. McCormick retired from active business life several years ago because of failing health, and Mrs. McCormick became associated with the office staff of the Ithaca City Hospital. There her natural business instinct, her geniality of disposition, sympathetic nature and readiness to be of service won for her the admiration and affection of all with whom she came into contact.
While Mrs. McCormick was devotedly attached to her religion and was a devout member of the Catholic Church and for years president of the Ladies' Aid Society and a member of the Rosary Society, she was always tolerant of others' views and ever willing to lend a sympathetic ear to those in trouble to give aid in relieving distress, condition. regardless of race, creed or condition. It was quite natural that such a character should make a host of sincere friends who deeply regret her passing.
Mrs. McCormick leaves her husband, Bernard F. McCormick, and three sisters, Mrs. Mary A. Geyer of New York City, Miss Rose A. McAllister and Mrs. James E. Neary of Brooklyn, and a brother, Peter F. McAllister of New York City.
The funeral will be held at 8:30 o'clock Wednesday morning from the McCormick home, 613 East State street, and at 9 o'clock from the Church of the Immaculate Conception.”
