"Merle E. Brown, 90, of 220 Ridgedale Rd., died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 1997, in the Reconstruction Home. Born July 30, 1907 in Ithaca, he was a son of the late Albert and Phemia Teeter Brown.
A U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II, he was a member of American Legion Post #221. He was also a member of Fidelity Lodge #51, F.&A.M.; the Board of Trustees of Pleasant Grove Cemetery; and was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener and handyman.
He was employed by the New York State Electric & Gas Corp. for 47 years retiring as Joint Pole Supervisor in 1972. After his retirement from NYSEG, he served as a Federal Civil Service Exam supervisor in the Ithaca area for 16 years.
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of 53 years, Enid W. Brown of Ithaca; sister, Janet Wheaton of Largo. Fla.: brother, Darrell Brown of Brooktondale; nieces, Penelope Evans of Ithaca, Joanne Lelik of Ithaca, Carol Ann Comfort of Largo, Fla., and Julie Peaslee of Largo, Fla.; nephew, Richard Peaslee of Ithaca; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Eva and Leon Evans.
Fidelity Lodge #51 will conduct Masonic Rites at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 1997, followed by funeral services, Rev. Rebbeca Dolch officiating, in the E.C. Wagner Funeral Home of Ithaca.
Burial will be in Pleasant Grove cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church or to the charity of one's choice. A reception for family and friends will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church immediately following the funeral service."
