“James H. Cooper, 80 of 519 W. Green St., died Saturday, December 15, 1944, in Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
A 32nd degree Mason of the Henry Hyland Garnet Lodge 40, he was also a past master of the Masons, a member of Lodge 180 of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks , and a member of the board of the South Side Community House for many years. For a number of years, he traveled with the Cornell Glee Clubs, and in 1897 went to England with the Cornell crew which rowed against Oxford.
He is survived by a sister, Miss Georgia Cooper of Redlands, California., and a brother-in-law George Robertson and family of Niagara Falls.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in St. James AME Zion Church by the pastor, the Rev. Alexander Pierce. Burial will be in the family plot in City Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Herson Funeral Home, 110 S. Geneva St., this evening.”
