Ex-Ithacans Killed in Mishap, August 29, 1969

"A retired Virginia Beach naval officer and former Ithacan and his 19-year-old son - Lt. Comdr Gustave F. Heuser Jr.. 49. and Gustave F. Heuser III — were killed Aug. 29 in a single car accident at Lebanon, Tenn.
The commander was the son of Gustave F. Heuser of 608 Hillside Drive. Lakeland, Fla.. professor emeritus of poultry husbandry at Cornell University and a former Forest Home resident. and the late Mabel Bohall Heuser. Professor Heuser became an assistant professor in 1918 after graduation from the university and retired in 1957.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Commander Heuser and his son were killed when their car hit a bridge. The car was a total loss.
Commander Heuser grew up in Ithaca. He was a graduate of Ithaca High School and held the B.S. in hotel administration from Cornell University. 1942.
Besides his father, Commander Heuser is survived by his wife, Bernice Johnson Heuser: three sons. Willard E, Bruce R. and George K. Heuser all of Virginia Beach: a daughter. Mrs. Raymond E Gregory of Norfolk. Va., and two brothers, A. R. Heuser of Mahwah. NJ.. and R. L. Heuser of Arlington. Va.
Gustav Heuser III was in the Navy and stationed at Norfolk Naval Air Station."
