Arthur Wellington Davis, 1878-1958

"Arthur Wellington Davis, 80, 413 N. Cayuga St., a pioneer in the automobile business in Ithaca, died early today, Aug. 1, 1958, at his home after a long illness.
Associated with McClune's Garage in 1900 in [sic] 1901 he built a garage in Cortland and conducted a business there until 1912. The first car he sold was a steam model. After selling his Cortland business he returned to Ithaca in 1912 and built a garage at 208-212 S. Cayuga St., the present location of Finney Motors Inc.
At the time of his retirement in the late 1930's he was agent for De Soto-Plymouth cars.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Odd Fellows of Cortland for over 50 years; and a former member of the Knights of Pythias; Forest City Grange and the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ann E. Davis with whom he recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Redfield-Lyon of Ithaca; four grandchildren and two cousins...."
