"Marcus N. Chacona of 309 E Buffalo St., proprietor of the Pine Tavern at 201 N. Aurora St., and for many years an ice cream dealer and confectioner in Ithaca, died Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 14, 1948 in Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Born in Corista, Greece, he came to this country as a young man. He joined his brother, Paul N. Chacona, in manufacturing and selling confections and ice cream. They did business at 415 College Ave. and 416 Eddy St. as the Chacona Brothers.
Marcus was identified with the hill confectionery business until 1920 when he opened The Goodie Shop at 105 N. Tioga St., which a few years later became know as The Coffee Shoppe. About 1929 he opened a larger store at 224 E State St., which was also operated under the name of The Goodie Shop.
In 1932 he started a business under the name of the Dairy-Made Fudge Company, with which he was identified until 1935 when he took over the Pine Tavern restaurant and grill. In 1933 and 1934 he also operated the Crescent Billiard Parlors at 222 N. Aurora St."
