The marriage of Betty Estelle Bortz to James Irving Updyke on June 20 1942 was announced in The Ithaca Journal on June 23 1942. An error about the bride's mother's name was corrected on June 24.

Correction to error in marriage announcement for Betty Estelle Bortz to James Irving Updyke.
"Miss Betty Estelle Bortz, who became the bride of James Irving Updyke, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry A. Bortz of 319 Linn St., not Mr. and Mrs. Perry A Bortz as reported in The Journal Tuesday."

"James Updyke of 1314 Hanshaw Rd. has been appointed supervisor of the model shop at the General Electric Advanced Electronics Center here. His former position at the research and development laboratory was that of specialist_model shop. Duties of his new position include production planning for the shop and overseeing the manufacture of prototype and experimental models of systems machinery.
  The newly-appointed supervisor has been employed at the center since September 1952 when he was hired as the first model maker in the original model shop. Growth of metal-working facilities later found Updyke as working leader.
  He was discharged from the U.S. Navy as machinist mate, and his experience in the metalworking field includes work with Ithaca Gun Co., the Adding Machine Division of the National Cash Register Co., and Goodman Enterprises of Trumansburg. He is a member of the Ithaca Industrial Management Club
  Updyke's wife is the former Betty Bortz of Ithaca."

 "James I. Updyke, 74, of 901 Dryden Rd. died Saturday, March 31, 1990 in Tompkins Community Hospital.
  Born in Buffalo, NY, he was the son of the late Bert and Estell Peck Updyke. For 15 years he was the plant superintendent for General Electric in Ithaca prior to the plant's closing. From 1966 until his retirement in 1979. he was the plant superintendent for the State University at Cortland.
  Mr. Updyke held Life Memberships in Elk's Lodge No. 636 and in Cataract Hose Co. No. 7's.
  Survivors include his wife, Bette E. Updyke of Ithaca. Sons: Kim J. Updyke of Cobleskill, Kevin B. Updyke of Homer. Daughter: Kristin J. Schreffler of Cortland. Brother: Leslie Updyke of Wilmington, Del. and 6 grandchildren."
