"Dr. Oliver Gumbs, who played football for Ithaca High in 1929, died Dec. 5 at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, D.C. He was 81. Gumbs had lived in Washington since 1987 after retiring in 1979 as an obstetrician-gynecologist in Mobile, Ala. He attended Cornell University and was a graduate of Virginia Union University and Meharry Medical School."
