Obituary for George Raymond Barns (died May 8, 1983)

"George Raymond Barns, 69, of 210 Comstock Road, Ithaca, died Sunday, May 8, 1983, at home after a long illness. He was the son of the late Amos and Grace Barns.
Mr. Barns graduated from Ithaca High School, class of 1931, and Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration, class of 1935. Hotels he has managed include: Rowe in Grand Rapids, Mich.; Allerton in Cleveland, Ohio; and Blackhawk in Davenport, Iowa. He purchased the Mayflower Motor Inn and Lexington Motel in Lexington, Va., in 1950. He retired and moved to Ithaca in 1969 where he worked at Cornell until retiring in 1975.
He was active in the Rotary Club, Savage Club, Cayuga Trails Club and was on the board of directors of the Reconstruction Home and Senior Citizens.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Anderson Barns of Ithaca; and three sons: R. Lawrence Barns of New York City, Rev. G. Stewart Barns of Cambridge, Mass., and A. Scott Barns of Washington, D.C.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. John's Episcopal Church with Rev. G. Stewart Barns officiating. Burial will be in Comber, Ontario, Canada."
