"CHURCH OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION, (CATHOLIC)

The first Catholic settlers came to Ithaca about the year 1830, and divine services were held in a private house for some time.

The first church organization was established under the pastoral charge of the Rev. Mr. Gilbride, at which time a small church was erected on Geneva street. The church occupies at present a convenient edifice on the corner of Geneva and Seneca streets, which was erected during the pastorate of Rev. Bernard McCool."

Directory of the Village of Ithaca, both general and business, 1869-70 / compiled and published by G. Whitfield Farnham.  Ithaca, N.Y. : Printed at the Ithaca Journal Office, 1869.  Page 22.
