FREEVILLE - F. William Barrett, 89, of 9 Cook St., died Monday, May 8, 1978, at Tompkins County Hospital after a short illness.
He was born Dec. 26, 1888, in South Greigsville, N.Y., son of the late Frederick and Carrey McBurney Barrett. Mr. Barrett lived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lacey Armitage of Freeville since 1958.
He attended Greigsville schools and was graduated from Cornell University in 1915. After graduation he worked in farm practice at Cornell, conducting classes. He was superintendent there from 1916 until his retirement in 1958.
During the 1920s he worked with the Agricultural Engineering Department in field drainage, and later conducted tractor schools throughout New York State. He also built specialized farm machinery for use by graduate students.
Mr. Barrett is survived by a sister-in-law, Isabelle Barrett of Avon; and eight nephews, Robert of Henrietta, William of Hawaii, Fred of Rochester, John of Hawaii, Eugene of Buffalo, Arthur of Avon, Donald of Rush and Norman of Avon.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Wood Funeral Home in Dryden with the Rev. Frank Bunyan of Dryden Baptist Chapel officiating.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Leicester Cemetery, Leicester, N. Y.
