“Died, in this village, Oct. 15, 1905 Jonathan Brown, aged 84 years. The funeral occurred Tuesday, Rev. H I Andrews officiating, interment in Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Brown was half-blood Indian, his father being a member of a Long Island tribe, a few of whom still exist. He came to this place when a young man and here we believe Jonathan was born, his mother being a colored woman. He will be remembered as a quiet, industrious man, dying only a few years ago a very old man. Jonathan, the last of three sons, has lived all his life in this village and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was a good citizen, faithful to obligations, living up to his light, and will long be remembered most kindly by the people, old and young, of this village.”
