"ORONO - Nancy (Kurtz) Nolde Wood, 92, died Friday, April 19, 2013, at Dirigo Pines Retirement Community, Orono. Nancy was born Feb. 5, 1921, in Reading, Pa., the daughter of the late George G. and Edna Seidel Kurtz.
Nancy attended public schools and then later attended Emma Willard School, Troy, N.Y., graduating in 1938. In her early years, Nancy enjoyed swimming, horseback riding and tennis. After finishing at Emma Willard School, Nancy attended Bradford College, Haverhill, Mass. In the 1940s Nancy met John Nolde, a college professor of history and they married in 1944. John and Nancy moved to Maine in 1950 where John was a professor at the University of Maine, Orono, for many years.
John later became the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, 1967-1973. During their years at the University of Maine, Nancy was very involved in many local activities, groups and associations.
  ...
Professionally, from 1976 to 1986, Nancy was a research assistant in the English department at the University of Maine, Orono, campus, serving as an assistant to the editor of "Paideuma," a journal devoted to Ezra Pound scholarship. During these years, John and Nancy loved to sail and eventually they built a cottage on the coast of Maine at Oak Point, just off Mount Desert Island, where they spent their summers sailing and visiting with Oak Point neighbors. For many years after John retired, they spent several months in the winter in Sanibel Island, Fla. John Nolde died in the fall of 1988 and many months later Nancy began seeing Dr. George W. Wood Ill, whose wife, Adelle, died in the summer of 1988. After a couple of years their friendship blossomed into love and they they were married in December of 1990.
...
Nancy is predeceased by her first husband, John Nolde. She is survived by her husband, George W. Wood III; goddaughter, Suanne Morse-Price of Mount Desert Island; and six stepchildren and their families."
