Mr. Meigs received the law degree from Cornell University in 1927 and was admitted to the New York Bar in 1928. In 1957, he was certified to practice law before the State Court of Appeals and United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Meigs practiced law in New York City from 1927 through 1933, then in Buffalo until 1936. He acted as legal assistant to the comptroller at Cornell University from 1933-1935 and from 1937-1942 was secretary of the Corporation of Cornell University and was a University Counsel.
From 1944-1963, he was a director of the Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory Inc., and served as secretary of the corporation and University Counsel.

During World War II, Mr. Meigs was a captain in the Air Judge Advocate's Office, Army Air Force. In 1950, he went to Japan as an Army representative to the Japanese Ministry of Education and Civil Information Supreme Headquarters.
He was Village of Cayuga Heights Justice of Peace in 1946 and 1947.
He was a member of Phi Delta Phi and Sigma Nu fraternities, member of Ithaca Rotary Club, Cornell Statler Club and Cornell Club of New York. He was a member and vestryman of St. John's Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Beard Meigs; a son, Return Jonathan Meigs of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Marcia M Carry of Williamsport, Pa., two grandchildren; two brothers, Return J. Meigs of New York City and Beverly V. Meigs of Basking Ridge, N.J."
